Student Academic Risk Summary System

The Student Academic Risk Summary System is an automated early-warning infrastructure designed for academic administrators, counselors, and intervention teams. Rather than treating all failing grades equally, this procedure calculates a weighted severity score for every student with numeric grades between 1 and 69, tracks week-over-week trend trajectories, flags newly failing courses, and caches the results into a high-performance database summary table for immediate dashboard rendering.

1. Weighted Risk Calculation Logic

Every failing or near-failing grade assigned to a student generates a Base Point (1.0) plus a Severity Penalty based on how far the grade has dropped.

Course Risk Weight = 1.0 + Severity Penalty

2. Risk Status Categorization

A student’s cumulative risk score dictates their administrative status band:

CRITICAL (>=8.0): Immediate counselor and administrative intervention required. Indicates a severe single failure (=<31) or multiple compounding moderate failures.
HIGH (4.5 – 7.9): High priority for counselor review. Indicates at least one significant failure or multiple borderline failures.
MEDIUM (2.5 – 4.4): Moderate priority. Student exhibits multiple borderline failures or near-failing course warnings.
LOW (< 2.5): Single near-passing warning or low-risk grade.
